Vassar 1996 "Butler's Retreat"
The design of this narrow 7’ x 13” room with its 7’ ceiling is a study in space expansion.

Dark wallpaper background gives illusion of infinity and the diagonal pattern gives the illusion of  depth.   

Wallpaper carried up onto the ceiling and floor trim painted chocolate color of paper background adds vertical height.

Bed placed horizontally adds width. 

Bed drapes hung at different depths and widths create the perspective of continued space.

Drapery rings hung on the ceiling maximize the height of the room.  

Mirrors and glass shelves reflect light and continue the illusion of more space.
